Who Died in New Orleans?

Michelle Malkin is either irredeemably stupid or unabashedly duplicitous. Consider her latest snit that African-Americans complaining about Katrina are, according to Michelle, ignoring figures that allegedly prove that more white people than African-Americans died in the aftermath of Katrina.
Michelle cites figures from the St. Gabriel Morgue that, she says, show that 48% of the deceased were black and 41% were white. Before finishing her “I Told You So” dance, Michelle cites a Newsmax story that states that the population of New Orleans was 67% black and 28% white.
If this all smells like bullshit to you, it’s because it is. For starters, the statistics from St. Gabriel Morgue covered only 562 of the 883 bodies in the morgue. No race breakdown was given for the 321 bodies that had yet to be identified. Michelle, of course, doesn’t mention this. Obviously no final conclusion can be drawn about the race of the victims without including the remaining 36 percent of the bodies.
Moreover, the demographic figures about the population of New Orleans cited by Michelle were for the city proper, not for the metropolitan area, whereas the corpses at the St. Gabriel morgue were from all the parishes in the metropolitan area. The demographic breakdown for the metro N.O. area is 57 percent white and 37 percent black. Those figures, of course, would suggest a disproportionate impact even if you accept the inconclusive figures from the partial report from the morgue.
So which is it - is Michelle irredeemably stupid or unabashedly duplicitous?
