Over at Atlas Shrieks, “Citizen Journalist, Citizen Soldier” Pamela Oshry demonstrates her journalistic chops by falling for a bogus internet email. The email in question is allegedly from a county emergency manager in Colorado. It purportedly describes the response of the industrious white folks in Colorado to the recent blizzard, which it compares unfavorably to the response of those lazy Negroes to Hurricane Katrina. Some excerpts:
George Bush did not come.
FEMA did nothing.
No one howled for the government.
Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit. (Ed. note: just in case you forgot the New Orleans was mostly black)
Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something.
Problem is, as Snopes points out, this bogus email has been circulating the internet since 2005, long before the recent blizzard. Pamela dismisses this fakery (since presumably it didn’t occur on CBS) and claims “The thought’s right, though.”
But, of course, it isn’t right. State officials have already requested that the area be declared a national disaster area so that FEMA assistance could be made available. Not to mention the teeny difference between 10 feet of water and 4 feet of snow.
