Every time Steve King (R. - Iowa) opens his mouth it becomes harder and harder to escape the conclusion that he was dropped on his head when he was an infant. Consider his remarks on the “Put More Non-White Kids in Adult Jails Act of 2005″ which the House passed just after the Capitol was emptied on Wednesday by the Cessna of Evil:
Madam Chairman, I thank the esteemed chairman for yielding time to me, and Madam Chairman, I ask for this opportunity to say a few words in support of the bill that is before us and in compliments to the work done by the gentleman from Virginia who has announced to us that there is a number, the best estimate at 750,000 to 850,000, gang members in the United States. When we think about the magnitude of that size number, 750,000 to 850,000, 75 to 100 percent, and a lot believe the number is very close to 100 percent, are illegal immigrants.
Obviously since we don’t ask on the census form whether you’re a gang member or not, any estimate of the number of gang members in the U.S. is speculative at best and made up at worst. And we certainly don’t have much of an idea what part of that number is made up of illegal immigrants. But, you know, if Steve is going to make up a number, you would think he might make up one that somebody with an I.Q. several points higher than an Iowa cornstalk might actually believe, i.e. something other than “very close to 100 percent.”
Of course, why be stupid if you can’t be racist too? Consider the remainder of Steve’s remarks:
This ethnic enclave has created and fostered some of the worst gains [sic - gangs] we have ever seen in this country, people that cut off hands and arms and heads, people that have a network across this Nation that from a prison in California can order an execution on the streets of Virginia or from a prison in Virginia, order an execution in a prison in L.A. or on the streets of L.A. That is what this culture has fostered.
Steve, of course, knows whole lots about illegal immigrant gangs because the largest city in his district is Sioux City, Iowa, which, as everyone knows, is so overrun by Hispanic gang violence that you can’t even go to the closest Burger King if you aren’t in an armored Humvee.
