"Most Loathsome Member of Congress 2004 Award" (12/12/2004)

N
ominations are now open for "Most Loathsome Member of Congress 2004." The nomination form is just under the post calendar on the left. Type in your nomination for the most loathsome senator or representative, hit submit, and you're done! Feel free to nominate as many members as you like, since there are indeed a number of worthy nominees for this award on the Hill.
Once the nominations are closed, I'll select 6 nominees. Readers of Outside The Tent will then be asked to vote for their favorite -- or, rather, least favorite -- member.
The Loathie Award Statuette (pictured at right) will be awarded at ceremonies to be held in February. Of course, it is doubtful the award winner will actually show up, whether for reasons of incarceration or simple disinclination. We are hoping, however, that the winner will call a press conference to deny that he or she deserves the award. (Some of you might fondly remember former Republican Congressman
William Scott, who called a press conference to deny that he deserved the Dumbest Member of Congress award given to him by the now-defunct
New Times, thereby assuring that the award would be the enduring legacy of his mercifully brief public service).

I beleive Scott was actually Virginia's Senator when he won his award. If I recall correctly, he had been a house member before his senate term. BTW: Letme thnak you blog for the great photo you took of my office window. John

Scott was a Senator when he won this dubious award. He had been a Representative for three terms before that. I suppose I should have said Senator Scott instead of the more generic Congressman Scott -- particularly since that is more embarrasing to the Commonwealth of Virginia (as if that could be possible).
